Abstract

The decline in lowland rice productivity in Bantul Regency is associated with decreasing soil fertility and farmers' heavy reliance on synthetic fertilizers. The use of Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) is an environmentally friendly alternative that can support plant growth and improve soil health; however, its adoption among farmers in the Budi Luhur Farmer Group remains suboptimal. This study aimed to analyze the level of PGPR adoption and the effects of internal factors (age, education, and farming experience) and external factors (the role of extension workers, the role of farmer groups, and cosmopolitan level) on PGPR adoption. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed through a survey of 37 purposively selected respondents from a population of 107 farmers. Data were analyzed descriptively using score percentages and multiple linear regression. The results showed that the level of PGPR adoption was moderate (57.39%). Farming experience and the role of agricultural extension workers had positive and significant effects on adoption, whereas the role of farmer groups had a significant negative effect. Age, education, and cosmopolitan level were not significant. These findings indicate that PGPR adoption is more influenced by farmers' experience and extension support. Therefore, practice-based extension programs, PGPR demonstration activities, and strengthening the function of farmer groups are needed to enhance PGPR adoption and support productive and environmentally sustainable rice farming.
