Abstract

Mechanization and agricultural insurance play an important role in improving the sustainability and efficiency of rice farming. However, the adoption of mechanization and agricultural insurance has not been evenly implemented among rice farmers. Do the use of mechanization and insurance affect the level of technical efficiency in rice farming? This study aims to analyze the effect of inputs on rice production, to analyze the technical efficiency of rice farming, and to examine the influence of mechanization, insurance, and other factors on technical efficiency. The stochastic frontier production function was employed to estimate technical efficiency and the effect of inputs on rice production, while Tobit regression was used to analyze the influence of mechanization, insurance, and other factors on technical efficiency. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires administered to 80 sample farmers. The results revealed that the production factors significantly affecting rice production were land area, urea fertilizer, ponska fertilizer, and labor. The respondent farmers in the research location were considered efficient, with an average efficiency score of 0.727. In addition, education, farming experience, and the use of mechanization had a significant positive effect on technical efficiency, whereas agricultural insurance did not significantly affect technical efficiency. Government and institutional support for the application of modern technology at the farmer level is essential to enhance agricultural productivity and crop production efficiency.
