Empowering Children at Baiti Jannati Orphanage through Yogurt Making Training and Strengthening Literacy Skills

Abstract

The Baiti Jannati Foster Home is a social home that accommodates orphaned, orphaned and needy children.. In carrying out its management and operations, the source of funds obtained to carry out activities and finance the children of the Foster Home only relies on irregular donors. The average amount of funds coming into foster homes is not sufficient for the total costs incurred each month. The results of discussions with partners showed that they needed another small business that could increase their monthly income. Therefore, this service program aims to transfer technology for yogurt production and packaging. The choice of food technology in the form of a yougurt drink product was based on considerations of the ease of obtaining the ingredients and the relatively easy way of making them. Another problem faced by partners is the low level of student literacy, which is demonstrated by a number of students at elementary school level who have problems with their reading skills. So this service program is implemented in two stages, namely the transfer of technology for making yogurt drinks and packaging and increasing the literacy skills of partners. The output achieved from this service activity is increasing the partner's ability to produce yogurt drinks, yogurt products with four flavor variants and increasing the literacy skills of the children of the Baiti Jannati Orphanage. It is hoped that the results of this service activity will have a positive impact on partners, especially increasing income so that it can become a sustainable, independent foster home. Apart from that, another hope is that the children of the Foster Home will have good entrepreneurial skills and literacy skills as provisions for living life in the future.
