ARTIKEL REVIEW: MANFAAT AVOCADO OIL SEBAGAI BASIS SEDIAAN PELEMBAB BIBIR

Abstract

Natural-based cosmetics are increasingly favored as they are considered safer than synthetic ingredients. One of the most widely used cosmetic products is lip balm, which functions to moisturize, protect, and repair the condition of the lips. Avocado oil (Persea americana Mill.) is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins A, D, and E, β-carotene, and sterolin, which provide emollient, antioxidant, and regenerative properties, making it a promising ingredient for lip moisturizer formulations. This review article was compiled through a literature search using Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and IOP Science, with keywords including formulation, avocado oil, and lip balm, focusing on publications from 2020 to 2025. The findings indicate that lip balm formulations containing avocado oil, either as a single component or in combination with other natural ingredients such as red beetroot or dragon fruit peel extracts, exhibit favorable physical characteristics, a stable pH, a smooth texture, good homogeneity, and no irritation. Furthermore, combinations with other natural extracts offer additional benefits, including natural coloring and antioxidant activity. Therefore, avocado oil has great potential as a primary ingredient in the development of safe, stable, and effective natural lip balm formulations.
